Coulsdon Manor Hotel

Coulsdon Ct Rd, Coulsdon, Old Coulsdon CR5 2LL, UK – 020 8668 0414

Lovely venue for a social event amidst the golf course. Attended 2 such events within a couple of weeks or so. We used the same function room which was well decorated & perfect for the number of guests attending with easily accessible toilet facilities, also in excellent condition. The food & drink both were top notch. Customer service was great - the staff were most accommodating. Highly recommend.

We have just had my daughter's wedding reception here and I could not fault the service at all. The staff were amazing and looked after us so well. We had a few little hitches that they ironed out without any fuss whatsoever and were so lovely. I would recommend this to anyone. The food was lovely and plentiful. My only (small) criticism was that the ladies loos were not very welcoming. There was no hand cream or tissues; it lacked the little touches. I had noticed this the day before so took a basket of toiletries for the lady guests which went down really well. Just a little tip for the future. Overall an amazing experience. Thanks

Pubs, Gastro Pubs and Bars

The Tudor Rose

Coulsdon Rd, Coulsdon CR5 1EB, UK – 01737 553368

Sunday lunch. Didn't make a reservation so couldn't get into the restaurant but there was plenty of seating space elsewhere. Although I'm not a vegetarian or vegan.was pleasantly surprised to see a full vegan menu and that's a first for me! The food and drinks we ordered were delicious and the atmosphere was very relaxed and was Lovely to see children of all ages running in and out into the child friendly garden. Car parking is ample.we were there for over 4 hours and didn't feel rushed.in fact it was so relaxing that we all decided to make a return trip in summer and enjoy the garden.

We love our Sunday roasts at this pub, food in general is excellent very tasty and wholesome and service is great. Once we were seated late and were given a bottle of prosecco on the house to say sorry. This was a great touch! Also my nan hates eating out but this is one of the only places she really likes and will go to.

Wattenden Arms

Old Lodge Ln, Kenley CR8 5EU, UK – 020 8660 4926

Had not been back for many years. Living elsewhere.. Pleasant service. Coffee available from a machine but instead offered tea, and beautifully presented, enjoyed. The premises could do with an upgrade however the friendly atmosphere made all the difference. Would go again but then it held sentimental memories for me over many years, so I have a soft spot for it.

First time to visit and love it. Great country - feeling pub, great food and staff.

The Ramblers Rest

Outwood Ln, Chipstead, Coulsdon CR5 3NP, UK – 01737 552661

Haven’t been to Ramblers for a while as felt food and service had gone down. But went on Thursday night with a bunch of girl friends. From the moment we walked in. Bar staff very welcoming then through to the restaurant. Served by new boy Theo.... an absolute delight extremely professional and very attentive which is great for such s large table (10). Is was very proactive and asked us if we would like things before we had to ask him. He will be a great asset to Ramblers Rest staff. For such a large table. All food arrived hot and very tasty. A good menu. Something for everyone. We will be back. Thank you

This is a favourite place for family meals out in the restaurant (which has an extensive menu) or a quick bar meal. Great seating area outside in warmer weather and close to Banstead Woods for walkies (with or without dog). Dogs welcome in the bar area but it can get quite busy at peak times. Menu is excellent, food is good and so is the beer and atmosphere. Large car park to the rear leads straight out to countryside walks so you can park, do your walk and finish with a drink or a bite to eat.

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

Bed & Breakfast Accommodation plus Guesthouses

Purley Cross

50 Brighton Rd, Purley CR8 2LG, UK – 020 8668 4964

I have been there for four days and I had a very nice time, everything was very clean, included the bathrooms, the environment was very peacefully and freandly... spacious rooms... TV and Wifi in the rooms... amaizing and flexible breakfast.... actually a lot of flexibility with everything (time of check in and out... everything). Reasonable price! I felt like at home! Thank you very much!

Reasonably priced, clean and tidy rooms with your own bathroom (albeit a bit small). You get what you pay for! Hosts are warm and welcoming for the most part. Conveniently located close to Purley town centre and ideal transport links (via bus and nearby train station) into central Croydon.

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!

Campsites and Caravan Parks

Alderstead Heath Caravan and Motorhome Club Site

Alderstead Heath Caravan Club Site, Dean Lane, Merstham, Redhill RH1 3AH, UK – 01737 644629

Unexpectedly a nice place to camp with our tent! Being a caravan site I was unsure, but the tent area is surrounded by trees and can choose own pitch, all have hookup. Great toilet block, hot showers. Even a brilliant baby & toddler room with proper bath for kids! Very family friendly with 2 play areas. Very reasonably priced for standard of facilities.

Great little site, with easy access to Gatwick airport. As expected there are plane noises throughout the day, but you soon get to tune it out, and the evening and night time it goes silent. The current Wardens are friendly and approachable. The site itself is kept clean and tidy and has the usual campsite facilities.
